DISTRIBUTION

This species is native of Egypt and is cultivated in the Mediterranean region and in South-West Asian countries such as Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and mostly produced in India. Within India, It is cultivated throughout in the plains, but also grows well at higher altitudes. It is cultivated in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.
