DISTRIBUTION

This species is indigenous to Victoria and Tasmania, naturalised in India. Within India, it is cultivated. It grows well in Nilgiris (1500-2500 metres), Annamalai and Palni hillls in South India, Simla hills (1200-2000 metres) and at Shillong in Meghalaya. Other places considered suitable for its cultivation are: Ranikhet (UP), Kangra, Kulu and Chamba. It is unsuitable for cultivation at altitudes below 1200 metres or at altitudes where snowfall is heavy.
